Where does Madigan Cashmere come from?
Madigan cashmere is created to Last a Lifetime and so the quality of our yarn must be impeccable.
The yarn is sourced from the most prestigious Scottish & Italian suppliers.
Renowned for their meticulous blending, no yarn processes are automatic; with the need to watch every individual fibre, and manually adjust the specially-designed machines to create the exact colour and character we have in mind.
In order to survive the extreme environment of the Gobi Desert, the goats grow thick coats made of coarse outer hair and a fine, soft undercoat.
Our suppliers use only the finest fibre – the white, downy undercoat that runs from the throat to belly. This yields a tiny amount: it takes fibre from one goat to knit a scarf, three to make a sweater.
Traditionally, farmers would collect cashmere fibre by ceremonially combing their goats in the spring, and the animal welfare, sustainability and traceability are the three pillars of the cashmere industry’s ethical sourcing initiatives.
Working in partnership with their approved de-hairers, our suppliers encourage sustainable herding and grazing practices, promote high standards of animal welfare, and work to protect this traditional way of life within nomadic communities, where nomadic cashmere farmers will often have a flock of 2-300 goats.
Our suppliers have refined their traditional techniques over two centuries to create a cashmere yarn that pills less than any other.
