At Madigan, we’re deeply committed to preserving the rich tradition of Irish craftsmanship through thoughtful, small-scale production.
Our cashmere pieces are created using a traditional hand flat knitting technique.
Once a staple in Irish homes from the 1950s to the 1980s, many a school jumper was knit by mothers in their homes in this manner. Whoever would have thought we could create something so beautiful all these years later?
We have sought out these knitting machines in people’s attics, at car boot sales on Done Deal, Ebay etc. and have reconditioned them to suit what we are doing and to put our own stamp on the process.
Our silk garments are just as meaningful: each one is carefully cut and constructed by a local women-owned studio, using the same expert methods that Elaine’s mother passed down to her — from hand-drafting patterns to finishing each seam with care.

By honouring time-tested techniques and resisting the urge to overproduce, we strive to tread more gently on the planet and ensure a better future for generations to come.
